Eczema

The Problem

Also known as dermatitis, eczema is a common condition thought to affect 1 in 5 children and 1 in 12 adults. Symptoms for the condition include patches of chronically itchy, dry, swollen or red skin which often appear on the hands, arms, neck, face, legs, and joints or folds of skin. Sufferers often have sores with thick crusts on, and more chronic forms of the condition can see a thickening of the skin in infected areas.
The causes of why the condition occurs are widely unknown, but eczema is often linked (though not limited) to allergies, or conditions like asthma and hay fever. Stress and hormonal changes can also be triggers, making flare ups hard to prepare for, and difficult to control.
